What Is The Best Protein Powder For Women Over 50?

Your protein level is important. Protein is what your muscles need to remain strong. As a woman, you have special needs and especially if you are a woman over 50. After 50, muscle loss increases unless you are actively working to keep it. So what’s the best protein powder for a woman over 50?What is the Best Protein Powder For Women Over 50

A good daily intake of enough protein is what is needed to remain strong but not only to remain strong. It is also a great way to lose extra pounds picked up over holidays or just eating badly. Too much sugar and carbs and not enough protein can put women over 50 at risk for being overweight with continued muscle loss and insulin resistance leading to Type II Diabetes.

You may be lactose intolerant or already have diabetes and want to decrease sugar intake and are looking for a protein powder that is lactose-free and sugar-free. There are so many on the market so I set out to find which one would be the best.

There may be other criteria to think about. A protein powder with probiotics will be important for a woman also. What about taste? I think that is important too.

Top Protein Powder Best For Women Over 50

Not all protein powders are created equal. Taste is super important. I also took into consideration the amount of protein, nutrients, and cost per serving. Let’s face it, cost per serving is also important. A good meal replacement protein shake that tastes good and won’t break the bank is what I’m looking for.

Other reviews stated that it is a great meal replacement and they have lost weight. It also helps with nail growth. The taste was well liked for both the Chocolate and the Vanilla.

Out of the negative comments I saw, a few did not like the taste and said they mix it with peanut protein or other flavors to help the taste. I did see that it gave gas to someone and they attributed it to the milk they mixed it with.

Overall, most liked the taste and liked the fact that it was so nutritious and kept them full longer. It is a great meal replacement.

My favorite customer review was the one that left a video how she mixed the vanilla with iced decaf coffee and it tasted like a frappe! Check out all the customer reviews here.

UPDATE: I can say that Nature’s Bounty Optimal Solutions Vanilla Bean is delicious mixed with 2% Milk. It tastes like a Vanilla Shake. I love it and will be taking it every day to increase my protein intake.

Some of the negative reviewers did not like the vanilla but preferred the chocolate.

These reviews are for both the plant Optimum and also the Whey Optimum. They have actually lumped all the customer reviews and you can also purchase either the whey or the plant based on this page.

All in all Optimum Gold Vegan Protein Powder is a great choice for any woman. You can look at all the customer reviews here.

Which Protein Powder Would You Pick?

I’m actually trying both of these. I don’t have any problem with lactose so I can have the Whey Protein without any problems. I also like the idea of a plant-based protein shake also. I use Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin and Nails and I have great hair and nails so I do think Nature’s Bounty is effective.

If your goal is to replace a meal, then either one is perfect. The Optimum has a little more protein and the Natures’ Bounty has more vitamins. However, both will help you keep and build muscle. Something women need to be concerned about.

If you are a woman over 50 you need to think about your protein intake and keeping muscle as you age. So if you ask “what’s the best protein powder for women over 50?” the answer may be one of these excellent protein powder shake mixes.

If you are out to lose weight and gain muscle it would be easy to add a nutritious Protein Shake to your daily routine.

If you tried these or if you have a question I would love to hear your thoughts. Please leave me a comment in the comment section below.

  1. I am a woman over 50 and with my work schedule, sometimes I don’t have the time to sit down and have a full meal. After reading your review, I think I am going to try the Natures Bounty Optimal Solutions Protein Shake to use as a meal replacement. I do like the fact that it has prebiotics which will be a good compliment to my probiotic routine.

    1. Hi Ramona,

Thanks for your comment. I think you will love Natures Bounty Optimal Solutions Protein Shake. It not only tastes great but it also has your vitamins for the day PLUS Probiotics. It helps with belly bloat too.

I think you will be pleased and you will lose weight too. If you use this as a meal replacement especially. I love the Vanilla Bean. I mix it with 2 percent milk and it tastes just like a Vanilla Shake.

  2. I have been reading a lot lately about the benefits of chia and pomegranate. This is the first time I have seen them combined in a protein powder. I am excited to see how it tastes and works. The videos and the reviews look good. A lot of protein powders have an awful chalky aftertaste. Have you experienced any of that with this powder? I like that it is vegan as well. My daughter is not even close to 50 but I think she would still enjoy some of the benefits for this as a vegan.
Thank you. I am looking forward tot trying this.

    1. Hi Christina,
Thanks so much for your comment. This vegan protein powder is very popular. There are many flavors. I have had the Vanilla and it tastes pretty good. I always add a banana to mine too. I have seen so many of the customers rave about the Strawberry, The double Chocolate, and the Birthday Cake. I have a feeling all the flavors are tasty.
Optimum Nutrition Gold Vegan Protein powder does work. It certainly will lean you out especially if you take it after exercise. Let me know how you and your daughter like it as everyone’s taste is a little different.

  3. I tend to have a problem with protein powders in my smoothies – using my blender…
some of them ” gummy foam” up (for lack of better word) some get so foamy they aren’t liquid enough to drink.

Do you know what ingredient could be causing this reaction?

I don’t want to buy another expensive protein powder but I do love protein smoothies for a meal replacement.

    1. Hi Melissa,
Thanks for your comment. The problem you are having is a common one. Protein powders can foam up whether they are expensive or not. Try mixing a small amount of liquid with the protein powder first until it’s dissolved. Then add the rest of the ingredients and blend.
You should have a foamless smoothie with this method. I hope this helps and please let me know how this method works for you.

  4. Wow this looks and sounds delicious! I DEFINITELY need to be using a protein shake. I am definitely over 50 and have no doubt that it would be huge in making me feel better and probably look better too. I will be heading over to Amazon to purchase a bottle and I will let you know how it works for me.

    1. Hi Brenda,
Thanks so much for your comment. I really enjoy Nature’s Bounty Protein Powder. In fact, I am having a glass this morning! I have the Vanilla flavor. I mix it with milk. I love the fact that it has vitamins in it. As a woman over 50, we need the extra protein too!

Please let me know how you like this protein powder and how it’s working for you. Thanks so much for visiting and check back often as I will be adding more posts soon.

  5. Is the Nature’s Bounty good during menopause? I am 53 and looking for a good protein powder with the vitamins I need to help me feel better!

    1. Hi Lisa,
Thanks so much for your comment. I love this Nature’s Bounty protein powder because that is one of the benefits. It has vitamins and minerals that you need when going through menopause. As you age, you will need to concentrate on keeping up with your protein intake also. This protein powder is delicious too! Let me know if I can answer any other questions.

      Many Blessings,
