What is Retin A (Tretinoin)

Retin A is a brand of Tretinoin. Tretinoin is a form of Vitamin A. This form of Vitamin A was developed in the 1960

s at the University of Pennsylvania. It was patented and has been used for wrinkle reduction, smoothing the skin by exfoliating and it also reverses sun damage. If you are serious about skin care, you use it. I have used it for decades and cannot do without it. It also will help make your skin thicker with a more even tone. It is really awesome.

Tretinoin is a naturally occurring acid of Retinol (Vitamin A) Retinol can be bought over the counter. Retin A is by prescription, is a tretinoin. Tretinoin is a class of drugs called retinoids.

Retinoids reduce wrinkles by increasing collagen in the skin. It exfoliates, speeding the turnover of skin cells, fades spots evening skin tone, increases blood flow, fades actinic keratosis spots (pre skin cancer cells). It thins the old skin revealing new skin faster and also because of the collagen production, you have thicker skin. It also works great for acne.

Retinoids Over Counter

There is one over the counter retinoid approved by the FDA. It is called Differin and it is approved for acne. You can get it without a prescription. It is very effective in acne but if you are serious about wrinkles, go with tretinoin.

Retin A and wrinkles – How to Use Tretinoin for Wrinkles

The best way to use tretinoin is to take a pea size amount and spread it evenly over your face. In the beginning, use it every other night until you get use to it. A great tip is to moisturize first and let your face dry and this will cut down on the irritation. Always cleanse your face first, let dry, then moisturize, let dry and then spread your tretinoin over your skin. This is the way I now use tretinoin.

Tretinoin is a great way to treat acne. However, if beautiful smooth wrinkle free skin is what you crave, you should use it too. It’s not just for acne. Tretinoin is great for turning back the clock on sun damaged skin.

It won’t reverse really deep wrinkles, but it will soften and smooth out your skin beautifully. It works best if you start early enough before you get really deep wrinkles. However, it is really never too late to try it. It can only improve your appearance.

This is a beauty tool no one should be without. Tretinoin along with other treatments like mesotherapy, chemical peels, and facials keeps me looking much younger than my real age. I get complements on my skin all the time

Difference between Tretinoin Cream & Gel

Tretinoin in cream form is easier on your skin than the gel form. I have used both. I actually like the gel form the best. It spreads easy and I actually find it make my skin much smoother than the cream form. It can be harsher if you use too much. A pea size amount is plenty to use.

You can get the gel tretinoin here as well as the cream form. Both are available.

How to Use Tretinoin Without Irritation

For years I struggled to use my Retin A so I would not have any irritation. I was always instructed to wait about 30 minutes after I washed my face to apply the Retin A. I always used only a small pea sized amount. However, sometimes my skin would feel irritated and peel too much the next day. I liked the exfoliation because I knew that new skin was underneath and that the Retin A was doing its job. So I skipped using it sometimes and that was fine to do. I finally figured out that there is another way and that I could use it every night without irritation and without being overly dry.

So now I use tretinoin a little differently:

In this way I am able to have flake free skin in the morning. After cleansing, I use a good moisturizer, and Cicapair. Sometimes I apply a little make up but I don’t have too. My skin is very smooth and the cicapair covers any red areas. Cicapair is a great skin care product also.
