There is plenty of evidence that the Fat Freezing Procedure done in a professionals office (CoolSculpting) does work to get rid of unwanted fat cells. However, the cost may be prohibitive for some. The CoolSculpting procedure can be done on several body parts and price varies according to what part of your body you want to CoolSculpt. For instance, CoolSculpting the fat on your abdomen will set you back an average of $2000 – $4000. There are home fat freezing
systems that claim to do the same thing for a much lower cost, but does home fat freezing work? These home fat freezing reviews should give us a clue.
What is Fat Freezing?
Fat Freezing was born when in 1970 Epstein and Oren observed that a baby developed fat necrosis in the cheek area after sucking on a Popsicle. They coined the term Popsicle panniculitis, Since then, this has also been observed in adult subjects.
The observations of fat loss with cold led to the concept that lipid rich tissue is more susceptible to cold injury than the surrounding water rich tissue. Manstein introduced a method in 2007 for fat reduction by cold application at a certain temperature (39 to 41 degrees Fahrenheit) for a set period of time (30 minutes) thereby causing fat cells to die (apoptosis). This gave birth to CoolSculpting.
CoolSculpting is a brand of cyolipolysis. This method pulls up the subcutaneous fat between two paddles and freezes it for 30 minutes. The flesh is frozen and numb. This numbness persists for 2 to 3 months. The fat cells that die are flushed out by the body. By 2012 there had been over 150000 Coolsculpting procedures done and in 2014 the paddles were replaced by a suction cup.
What is Home Fat Freezing?
Home fat freezing came about because of the high cost of CoolSculpting. The CoolSculpting procedure is not covered by insurance and there are many who want to save the money as CoolSculpting is not cheap!
Home fat freezing methods basically use ice packs to freeze the fat. A popular one is the Isavera Fat Freezing System.
The Isavera Fat Freezing System consists of ice packs with a belt that has pockets. There are some positive results for this system. It has 4 and a half stars on Amazon for this system. It uses gel pack ice pack. It is the same principle though. Freeze the fat and it is broken down and eliminated by your body.
There is another one that is much more expensive called the Blue Fat FreezeSystem and it cost twice as much as the Asavera system and it also is a belt with gel pack ice packs.
There are several different kinds and they all work on the same principle – Freeze the fat and you will have less fat cells!
Who is Home Fat Freezing For?
If you want to freeze fat cells at home or in a professional’s office with Cool Sculpting it is recommended that you be close to your target weight by about 10 to 20 pounds. It is not for weight loss, but for getting rid of stubborn fat pockets that don’t seem to budge no matter what.
This method of fat freezing is best for those who are just a little overweight, or like me, not overweight at all but have stubborn belly fat. I know there are women out there who just want to get a flatter stomach and are satisfied with the other areas of their body. If you are one of those women who just want to get rid of some pockets of fat, then you could try this method. Women over 50 most often have the stomach menopot or “pouch” to deal with. However, you could want to get rid of another stubborn fat pocket too. For instance, the upper arms or the thighs.
Does Home Fat Freezing Really Work?
The Isavera Fat freezing Belt is a popular one bought on Amazon and it has a 4 1/2 star rating. 81 percent of those who used the system said they saw a difference and gave a 5 Star review. The 3 and 4 star reviews even said they saw a difference. Out of all the over 300 reviews, there were 2 reviewers who did not see a difference. No one received any type of burns, but one person complained about being bruised.
I would be careful if you were to purchase one of the electric ones. The systems that use the gel packs are probably safer to use as they only stay cold for a time and are less likely to burn your skin.
Home Fat Freezing using ice packs
Using ice packs or gel ice packs with a barrier like a towel has been successful for some.
So ice packs to burn fat does work for some. However, there are several variables to consider and some precautions to take if you want to try this method yourself.
- There is no real way to regulate the temperature
- An effective protective barrier between skin and ice pack is needed
- Risk of burning skin and also bruising
Some studies show that using ice packs on fat can help turn white fat into calorie burning brown fat. Exposure to cold can turn white fat on the belly and thighs to brown fat according to a study published in the journal of The Endocrine Society’s Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
However, more than that, there are reviews from those who have used ice packs and have reduced inches from waist and thighs. Since Cool Sculpting does definitely work, it stands to reason that ice packs could too.
If you want to spend hundreds to thousands on CoolSculpting, then definitely do that. You will be able to get rid of belly fat cells. However, if you want to save loads of money, you can try to use ice packs at home.
How to Use Ice Packs at Home to get Rid of Belly fat
It will be easier and more effective if you buy the gel ice packs as regular ice will melt and is much harder to fool with. To make it real easy just purchase a system that includes the gel ice packs along with the protective belt to hold it in place.
If you want to devise your own, you can get the gel ice packs. Then get something to hold the ice packs in place. It is a good idea to wear this no more than 20 to 30 minutes. You don’t want to cause bruising. Just do this every day. It will take up to 2 months to see results. The fat cells will die and be slowly absorbed by your body.
Caution: Do not use ice packs directly on your skin. You could end up with frostbite! Don’t want that!
If you try this method, please be careful. If you feel pain when wearing the ice packs take it off for a moment. Also, drink lots of water to flush the fat cells out of your body.
