I am constantly looking for ways to reduce my belly fat. It is a battle I fight everyday. I have found that if I eat junk food like, chips, fast food and other high calorie nutrient deficient foods, I will have more belly fat to fight the very next day! So set out on a quest to find healthy foods to lose belly fat.
Calories in are important and have a lot to do if you are overweight. However, if you are
a woman over 50 you may be seeing a beginning shift in where your weight is stored even though you are eating the same things and the same amount of calories.
If you find that your belly is not as flat and you have more belly fat even though you weigh the same as you did try concentrating on eating certain foods more than others. These foods will help slim your waist.
Lose Belly Fat With Prebiotic Foods
Prebiotic foods are those that our body flora (good bacteria) in our Large Intestines can thrive on. Prebiotic foods are mostly found in vegatables. It is the non-digestible fiber. There are other dietary fibers that also preform as prebiotics such as beta-glucans and pectin.
To increase the intake of prebiotics will help your digestion by supporting your “good Bacteria”. In turn, with better digestion, you will have less “bloat” as your food gets digested effectively. These foods are excellent for digestion, immune system, belly bloat, and promote weight loss.
Here is the list:
- Wheat Bran
- Whole Wheat flour (cooked)
- Raw Banana
- Raw Chicory Root
- Raw Jerusalem
- Raw Dandelion Greens
- Rolled Oats
- Green peas
- White Beans
- Pasta (cold)
- Potato (cold)
- Apple Cidar Vinegar (raw, unfiltered with the “Mother”)
It is better of course if you can get these daily into your diet. If you can’t you can get them as a prebiotic supplement.
I take Apple Cidar Vinegar before meals for a couple of reasons. I find my food digests much better. It has pectin which supports good bacteria and also alkalizes my system and it helps me lose belly fat. I put just 2 teaspoons in a cup of distilled water and just drink it down.
Lose Belly Fat With Probiotic Foods
It is important to have enough probiotics (good bacteria) in your intestines. If you have taken antibiotics it is most important to replace this bacteria. Your good bacteria or Microflora are important in your overall health. It is best to get these from foods. Tune up your gut and get your digestion running smooth. You will feel better and look better.
Here is the list:
- Miso Soup
- Veggies that are fermented
- Pickles (make sure they are fermented)
- Kombucha Tea (can be dangerous to make at home(
I don’t know about you but I find it difficult to eat these foods especially on a regular basis. I do eat yogurt everyday and I make sure it is not filled with sugar and high fructose corn syrup, dyes and artificial sweeteners. I also like Sauerkraut. I do also take a probiotic supplement.
Lose Belly Fat with Omega Dense Foods
If you concentrate on getting these foods everyday instead of any junk like frie.s, chips etc you are on your way to slimming your waist. My favorite are nuts and I eat a lot of them. Yes they have calories but I find I can eat them so easy and my belly stays flat. Not only are they full of Omega Fatty Acids, they are protein rich. It’s the Omega -3’s that do the trick.
Here is a list of Omega Rich Foods:
- Wild Salmon
- Firm Tofu
- Grass Fed Beef
- Fontina Cheese
- Mustard Seed
- Chia seeds
- flaxseeds and flaxseed oils
There are other foods that have Omega – 3’s added like eggs, milk, cheese, dairy and juices. As a woman you should be getting at least 1100 mg. per day. For a man, 1600 mg.
Omega – 3 in particular not only helps with keeping hunger at bay but can turn off your “fat gene” because they lower inflammation. Make sure you are getting Omega rich foods in your diet to lose that stubborn visceral belly fat. However, you can add an Omega – 3 supplement also.
Lose Belly Fat with Muscle Building Foods
By building muscle, you naturally increase your metabolism. When you have more muscle, you burn more calories. You must eat protein to build muscle. Weight lifting and strength training plus protein equals muscle!
Even if you are not weight training or strength training, you need protein to maintain your muscle mass. This is true for both men and women. You want to lose the fat but keep the muscle. If you are dieting you will want to make sure you are feeding your muscles protein so you do not lose muscle instead of fat. Here is a list of great protein rich foods.
- Cottage Cheese
- Nuts (Almonds, Walnuts, Pistachios, Walnuts, peanuts)
- protein drinks and powder
There are many other foods with protein but with a higher fat content. For instance Beef is great protein plus other nutrients but usually has more fat too.
The amount of protein required to at least keep healthy is 0.5 to 0,8 grams per pound of body weight. This is for both men and women. However, if you want to build muscle you will require more. For a woman who is working out and trying to build muscle you will need about 1.5 grams per pound of body weight.
You can buy protein drinks (I love ) or make a protein smoothie with Vegan Protein Powder if you are a vegatarian.
Lose Belly Fat With Superfoods
Superfoods like those in the following list will help you with your belly fat if you incorporate them into your diet on a regular basis. These Superfoods have antioxidants and fiber plus other substances to help you control your belly fat. For instance, the Cruciferous Vegatables (Cabbage, Brocolli and Cauliflower) not only have anticancer properties but also has been shown to have Indole- 3 – Carbinol, a substance that can help to balance hormones (help with the dreaded Menopot!)
- Dark Chocolate
- Green Tea
- Baobob Fruit Powder
- Cruciferous Vegatables (Brocolli, Cauliflower and Cabbage, Kale and others)
- Tumeric (add pepper)
Your weight loss journey will be much easier if you know which foods are healthy foods to lose belly fat. If you incorporate these into your diet you will tune up your system and be healthier, fitter and happier.
Prebiotic and Probiotic foods get your digestive system in good working order supporting and growing the good bacteria found in your intestines.
To keep and build muscle you need healthy high protein foods like lean meat and fish. Reducing inflammation is important too. Make sure you get heart healthy Omega-3 rich foods like Walnuts and wild caught Salmon. Superfoods are nutrient dense also and will go a long way to help you lose belly fat and get you healthy.
